What to look out for in the Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War arc?

With the Thousand Year Blood War Arc premiering after 9+ years in October of 2022, Bleach fans are nostalgic watching the trailer that was released around the end of 2021. Fans all around the world are gearing up in anticipation as years of waiting is finally ending with all the Bankais’ Full Form finally being released and the Zero Division finally being shown. So, to summarise, what to expect from this last arc:

  1.  Zero Division- After Ichigo gets his powers back, the Zero Squad a.k.a. the Royal Guard, i.e, all Five Captains protecting the Soul King, led by Hyosube now comes in which is a very important highlight of the Thousand Year Blood War Arc. We get an insight into why the royal guards cannot interfere with the workings of the Gotei 13 and a much bigger look into Hyosube, the monk who is said to give ‘names’ to things.
  2. Battle of the Kenpachis- In this arc, we get an insight into Kenpachi Zaraki, the Captain of the 11th division of the Gottei 13 and most importantly the evolution of his Zanpakuto. Battle of the Kenpachis, where he faces with Unohana, the original Kenpachi with unimaginable strength sent to unlock the full potential of his Zanpakuto, Nozarashi.
  3. Zanpaktou Revelation- Needles to say, the show’s last arc will be revealing everyone’s Zanpakuto that had been unknown for the longest time. We finally get to see Kenpachi’s Nozarashi, and also how Kyoraku was guarding Nanao’s God killing Zanpakuto. Also, most of the Shinigamis will finally unlock the full potential of their Bankai, like Rukia, Renji, and Urahara.
  4. Resurrection of Yhwach- One of the biggest developments in this arc is the resurrection of Yhwach. Son of the Soul King and Father of the Quincy, this man is a self-proclaimed peace lover and has immense respect for the First Division of Gotei 13, particularly Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto and his Bankai, the Zanka no Tachi that managed to instill great fear in his heart. After being sealed away for a thousand years, he is now back, seemingly there is a showdown between Aizen and him. So, that is an interesting development between the two antagonists of the show.
  5. Ichigo Backstory revealed- We already know that Ichigo’s father is a Shinigami, and in this arc we get to know about his mother, who happens to be a Quincy. She was supposed to wed Ishida’s father, but anyway, the rest is history. This is an important plot development towards the full re-formation of Ichigo’s Bankai.
  6. Zangetsu- Ichigo’s Zanpakuto, Zangetsu who is the Quincy side, was not apparently him but it was Yhwach! That’s a lot to unpack in one sentence. But yes, Zangetsu, who helped him train and develop, was actually was Yhwach all along since he is the King and connected to all the Quincys.
  7. Counter To Bankai Theft- For the longest time, the Quincy’s counter to Bankai was stealing it like the four Sternritters stole the Bankai of Hitsugaya, Byakuya, Soifon, and Komamura using a special medallion. Not to mention, the biggest steal where Yhwach steals Ryujin Jakka before killing Yamamoto. But now, Urahara and Mayuri have been able to come up with a counter weapon, an antidote that converts the Bankai into poison immediately after being stolen, killing the Quincy and returning back to its user. Seems foolproof, right? Or not? We’ll see.
  8. Hueco Mundo-  The Hollows’ domain of Hueco Mundo was left in shambles after the Fake Karakura Town arc. Harribal was the last Arrancar left and she is shown for a little bit in the sequel, Can’t Fear Your Own World. She is said to have struck a truce with the Soul Society and has no intentions of conquest, so Hueco Mundo is no longer the super power it once was.
  9. Soul Society- After Wandenreich’s assault, it is as broken as ever. One of the show’s concurrent theme is portraying the society as far from perfect, guilty of a lot of atrocities just to keep the living and the after-world apart. So when Yhwach comes back to avenge his thousand years of sealing and Quincy’s near-extinction, the Shinigami resort to drastic actions like even releasing Aizen for a temporary amount of time and letting Mayuri burn up villages.
  10. Happy Ending?- Lastly we get to see what the creator has in store for our protagonists’ endings. Does Ichigo end up with Orihime, and Rukia with Renji or do fanships go berserk seeing a different romantic pairing from their expectations? Romance is not a shounen manga’s focus, but after years of back and forth, the series will finally confirm the two major undeniable pairings.
